Amazingly LEICESTER CITY were 5000-1 at beginning of season and were favourites to finish bottom of the Premier league and be relegated.
The players listed below were unknown and had a history of failures and most were thrown out by bigger clubs and if you read the profiles below of each player you can only wonder and respect their own personal achievement and recognise that if you really keep believing you can achieve greatness in your profession.
1 Kasper Schmeichel – Goalkeeper – Son of famous Peter Schmeichel, signed for Manchester City then sold to low level as rejected from Premier League. Signed for Leicester in 2009
4 Daniel Drinkwater- Midfield -Played for Manchester United until 18 then thrown out to lower leagues as was not seen as good enough. No success at low level with 11 different clubs and considered poor until joined Leicester in 2012
5 Wes Morgan- Jamaican born player who was signed to Nottingham Forest in 2002 and then dropped into lower league semi-professional. Left football as was told he was overweight to play professional level. Joined Leicester in 2012
6 Robert Huth- Defender- German born and played for many clubs including Chelsea, Stoke City and Middlesboro. Played at good level in Germany but transferred regularly in England with little success.
9 Jamie Vardy- Striker – Biggest and most amazing climb to success as 3 years ago playing for pub team and then signed for non-league Fleetwood Town before joining Leicester one year ago. Scored amazing 34 goals in winning the Premiership now playing first games at International level.
11 Marc Albrighton – Midfield – Signed at only 8 years old for Top league Club Aston Villa then thrown out of club. After very little success and sent on loan to low leagues with Wigan. Singed for Leicester in 2014 for free.
14 N’golo Kante – Midfield – Played in France with no success until signed in 2009 by Leicester
17 Danny Simpson- Defender – Rejected by Manchester United academy in 2000 and then rejected by 6 English and 1 Belgium club. Charged with assault in 2009 and did community service till Leicester signed him back to football in 2016.
20 Shinji Okazaki – Striker – Japanese player played for Japan in 2008 Olympic Games. Got work permit in 2009 and signed for Leicester 2015. Now top footballer in Japan
26 Riyad Mihraz- Midfield- Algerian played in France for 3 years mainly as reserve team player, not breaking into full team till signed for Leicester in 2014 .
28 Christian Fuchs- Defender – Austrian born and played for 5 German and Austrian teams before serious knee injury and out of football for 3 years before signing for Leicester in 2011.
